What are Apple App Store Promotional Offers?
Promotional offers enable you to win back customers by offering free or discounted pricing on subscriptions for a period of time (3 days to 1 year).
Promotional offers are only available on Auto-Renewable Subscriptions, and are available in three flavors:
- free trial
- pay up front
- pay as you go
Once the offer period expires, the customer pays the full price for the next subscription period, which renews monthly or yearly, depending on the subscription that they used a promotional offer on.
Their primary use is for retaining and winning back subscribers.
The customers that are eligible are existing or previous subscribers within the app. Customers who have not subscribed within the app cannot complete this type of offer.
They are distributed and redeemed within the app or on the App Store via promoted in-app purchase
How do I create a Promotional Offer for my App?
You can either create a promotional offer for your app using Apple's App Store platform (App Store Connect) or the App Store Connect API.

How to I get informed when a customer redeems a Promotional Offer?
In order to receive, measure and analyze or take action on events outside your app related to promotional offers; or to engage with a customer when they redeem a promotional offer, you must create an App Store Server Notifications (ASSNs) system.
