What is a Space in Spatial Computing?

Oscar de la Hera Gomez
A flower that represents spatial computing with the text "Space" beneath it.

The term "space" refers to how an app or an experience lives within a headset (i.e. a VisionPro or Meta Quest), which range from a shared space to the full space.

An image that shows how a window can increase in size or take up the entire space. In the event of a small screen it is known as "mixed", a larger one "progressive" and the entire space is known as "full."

Depending on the chosen immersion style for an app, the experience may exist within the shared space or the full space.

When creating apps (i.e. experiences) for a headset like the VisionPro or the Meta Quest, it is important to decide where the experience exists: the shared space or the full space.

The requirements for the space will dictate the level of immersion that is required for the experience (i.e. mixed, progressive or full).
